The Land of WE
Tackling Climate Change and Cultural Solidarity Through Art by Re-imagining the World.
soaring for Peace
This mural is a celebration of culture, peace and nature located in Koreatown, a historic ethnic enclave of the Korean American Los Angeles Community. An area of town that has evolved into a multicultural urban center.
The white-naped crane is a Korean symbol of peace. The crane population was in decline; and they were classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature). Their populations have started to flourish again because they have found a home in the Demilitarized Zone of Korea, between the north and south where no humans are allowed. They are a sign that nature can heal and a symbol of reconnection between the north and south. Currently farming communities adjacent to the DMZ are creating conservation efforts to live in harmony and support the cranes.
The mural represents the cranes flying in a V formation. If you stand in the parking lot, you can stand in the middle of the V of the majestic birds in flight.
“The Land of We” uses art to popularize the ideas and solutions to mitigating climate change. It celebrates the just transition to renewable energy for frontline communities and workers, it highlights cultural inequities, and promotes the achievable goals of environmental sustainability like:
Biological and Cultural Diversity

Climate and community resilience
Accessible healthy food
A thriving natural world
Celebrating indigenous and historic cultural wisdoms for living in harmony with the earth and all living things.
"Land of We is a public art project to reimagine a future where ecology and culture thrive. Where living in balance with nature is a mainstream practice. Where diverse cultures are celebrated, histories honored, and people can live without fear of exploitation and violence."
